Claro Ecuador’s 4G reaches Puerto Ayora in Galapagos Islands

30 Jun 2016

Claro Ecuador, a subsidiary of Mexico’s America Movil, has announced the expansion of its commercial 4G LTE mobile footprint to the town of Puerto Ayora on the isle of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos Islands. The cellco confirmed that it has already reached 18 cities in mainland Ecuador with its LTE network, since launching 4G services in capital Quito and largest city Guayaquil in July 2015. Claro Ecuador (registered as Conecel) is the largest mobile operator in the country by users, but was later to enter the 4G market than its cellular rivals, state-backed CNT and Telefonica’s Movistar Ecuador unit.
