FiberStar selects Nokia to deploy 100G transport services on Java and Bali

15 Jun 2016

Nokia has inked a deal with Indonesian nationwide infrastructure provider FiberStar for the build-out of a new dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) backbone network to accommodate bandwidth requirements of the high-traffic areas of Java and Bali. Established in 2014, FiberStar says the use of 100G technologies will enable it to deliver some of the most advanced and efficient transport network services in the country, supporting it in the delivery of advanced triple-play FTTx telecommunications services in the so-called ‘last mile’. Nokia notes that Java is fast emerging as the centre of economic activity in Indonesia, and Bali remains a prominent tourist destination. Connecting these islands is part of FiberStar’s commitment to upscale its fibre-optic coverage to more cities by 2019. The Nokia-supplied 100G technology will optimise FiberStar’s network with the maximum capacity at the most effective cost per bit. The signed agreement also includes a five-year service maintenance contract to guarantee excellent network performance.

Today, the infrastructure provider’s fibre coverage extends to: Medan, Binjai, Deli Serdang, Tebing Tinggi, Pematang Siantar, Pekanbaru and Palembang (Sumatra); Bogor, Bandung, Cianjur, Cirebon, Depok, Garut, Gresik, Indramayu, Jakarta Barat, Jakarta Pusat, Jakarta Selatan, Jakarta Utara, Tangerang, Tasikmalaya, Semarang, Pekalongan and Purwokerto (Java); Denpasar (Bali); and Balikpapan (Kalimantan). A further 42 cities/towns are slated for future coverage, covering the aforementioned regions and Sulawesi.
