Mobistar becomes Orange, expands fixed services nationwide

11 May 2016

Belgian fixed and cellular operator Mobistar has officially rebranded under its majority owner’s Orange banner. The name change means all of the Orange Group’s subsidiaries in Europe are now operating under the unified brand. Stephane Richard, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Orange Group, commented: ‘Our ambition is to offer digital services over both fixed and mobile networks under a single brand, Orange, and to reinforce our position as leading convergent operator in Europe. We are very happy that Mobistar is becoming Orange right at the moment when we will be rolling out fixed-mobile convergent offers in Belgium.’

The announcement of the name change was accompanied by the news that Orange Belgium’s fixed internet and TV services are now available nationwide, having been launched in a limited number of markets in March this year. The firm also says that from next month its TV and internet services will be made available to all users rather than just existing Orange mobile customers. Orange had more than 5.58 million cellular subscribers in Belgium at the end of March, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, including 3.03 million retail customers, 1.82 million wholesale lines (via MVNOs) and 737,000 machine-to-machine (M2M) SIMs.
