Claro Paraguay, the local mobile unit of Mexican telecoms group America Movil (AM), has launched commercial 4G LTE services in 14 cities. The high speed data network is available in selected areas of Asuncion, Mariano Roque Alonso, Lambare, Villa Elisa, Fernando de la Mora, San Lorenzo, Nemby, Luque, Capiata, Aregua, Ciudad del Este, Hernandarias, Presidente Franco and Encarnacion. Customers in the 4G coverage areas require an LTE-enabled smartphone and SIM card to access the network. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in December 2015 Claro agreed to pay USD45 million for its 4G concession, comprising AWS 2100MHz/1700MHz spectrum. Fellow bidder and mobile market leader Tigo Paraguay switched on its LTE network in 20 cities last week.
