China Unicom has launched a commercial trial of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services in Henan province in partnership with domestic vendor ZTE. Henan is the first of seven trial sites lined up for the cellco’s VoLTE project. Unicom has selected ZTE as the exclusive provider of VoLTE technology for the rollout, with the company providing an end-to-end suite including voice-over-Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) and rich communications services (RCS). As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, China Unicom ended 2015 with 44.16 million LTE subscribers.
