Antimonopoly Committee seeks public opinion on MTS-TriMob deal

15 Mar 2016

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has issued a request for public comments on its website, seeking opinions and objections to MTS Ukraine’s proposed acquisition of Ukrtelecom’s mobile network operating division TriMob. In January it was disclosed that a preliminary agreement had been reached for Russian-backed MTS Ukraine, the country’s second-placed cellco, to purchase struggling 3G provider TriMob, a wholly owned subsidiary of nationwide fixed network operator Ukrtelecom, itself controlled by Ukrainian conglomerate SCM Group (owned by the country’s wealthiest man Rinat Akhmetov). The AMCU is asking for comments on the deal’s potential market impact or any wider implications.
