InterDnestrCom (IDC), the main telecoms provider in the breakaway region of Transnistria (also known as Trans-Dniester), has awarded a 4G LTE contract worth HRK56 million (USD8.2 million) to long-term partner Ericsson Nikola Tesla. Under the contract, the east European subsidiary of Ericsson will deliver LTE network that ‘offers a range of new communication opportunities’ for IDC’s subscribers. The software upgrade will ensure better network performance and accelerate new functionality introduction, the vendor said.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, IDC began deployment of a 4G LTE network in June 2011 in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent. The first 4G call was made over the network in December that year with a commercial launch following in the Tiraspol area in April 2012.
