Beeline and K’cell announce 4G pilots in Kazakhstan

9 Mar 2016

Kazakhstan mobile operator KaR-Tel, which trades under its parent VimpelCom’s ‘Beeline’ brand, has announced the pilot launch of 4G LTE services in three cities. The country’s second largest cellco by subscribers is offering 75Mbps LTE services in Almaty via the 2100MHz band and in Uralsk and Aksai using 1800MHz frequencies. Customers with a 4G-enabled smartphone can receive a free LTE SIM card from Beeline outlets in the three cities.

Separately, larger rival K’cell says it is also launching pilot 4G services, with its trials running in shopping centres in Astana, Almaty, Aktobe and Shymkent. Third largest cellco Tele2 launched commercial 4G services in a number of regions at the start of this month, while fourth player Altel has been providing LTE-based services since late-2012.
