AIS signs up 5m LTE users in less than two months

3 Mar 2016

Thailand’s largest mobile operator by subscribers Advanced Info Service (AIS) has announced hitting the five million 4G LTE user mark little more than one month after the full commercial launch on 26 January 2016, following a preliminary limited launch in December 2015. The LTE users represent over 12% of the company’s total mobile base. AIS was the last of Thailand’s three main cellcos to introduce LTE, after True and DTAC, but it claimed a coup with the country’s first commercial LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network using a newly-won 1800MHz technology-neutral licence and a portion of its existing 2100MHz spectrum previously reserved for its 3G services. AIS’ 4G network now reaches 59 of Thailand’s 77 provinces, up from 42 provinces covered at launch in January, with nationwide coverage expected by the end of June this year.
