Vodafone Ireland goes quad-play

22 Jan 2016

Vodafone Ireland has launched IPTV services, completing a quadruple-play mobile, fixed line, broadband and TV portfolio. Ciaran Barrett, Head of Consumer Fixed, Vodafone Ireland said: ‘This is a significant move for Vodafone in the Irish market, offering a full TV service to our customers for the first time.’ As reported by Broadband TV News, Vodafone is positioning IPTV as a premium service, available to new and existing Vodafone fixed broadband customers for a promotional monthly fee of EUR40 (USD43.50) covering TV, internet and voice.

The IPTV offering boasts a number of ‘first-to-market’ features including a dedicated Netflix button on remote controls and ‘super-fast’ channel switching, as well as Restart TV, instant seven-day catch-up and Wireless Multiroom to access live TV/recordings from anywhere in the home. The Vodafone TV packages also come with a TV Anywhere app, allowing customers to view the service on mobile devices away from the home; Vodafone mobile customers get Vodafone TV streaming including in all Vodafone TV bundles.

The entry-level package is EUR40 for the first six months (EUR70 thereafter) including unlimited broadband internet and 55 live TV channels plus a six-month free add-on (Netflix or BT Sport); fixed line voice calls can be bundled in for an extra EUR5-EUR10 on the standard monthly price, although subscribers will still only be charged EUR40 for the promotional six-month period. ‘Vodafone TV Plus’ packages with 80 live TV channels and two add-ons (from Netflix, BT Sport and Multiroom) also cost EUR40 for the promotional six months (EUR80-EUR90 thereafter).

Vodafone Ireland launched its new ‘LightSpeed’ fibre-based broadband internet service in November 2015, whilst it is currently Ireland’s third largest fixed broadband provider by users, with 17.9% of the retail subscriber market at end-September 2015, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
