Vietnamese telecoms operator VNPT-Vinaphone, a wholly owned unit of state-owned Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), has announced the launch of 4G LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) trials in Phu Quoc and Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City. The tests are being carried out on 50 base transceiver stations (BTS) on the island of Phu Quoc and 100 BTS in several districts of HCM City. Once it is awarded the requisite licence from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), VNPT-Vinaphone says it will focus on the rollout of 4G services in the largest cities and provinces, including Hanoi, HCM City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Can Tho, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang and Nam Dinh. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, last month mobile market leader Viettel Telecom officially launched a trial of LTE-A in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
