Spain’s Aire Networks has announced the acquisition of LTE-suitable spectrum in the 2.6GHz band from Orange Espana. The company noted that the frequencies in question were those previously belonging to Jazztel that Orange had been required to sell as part of commitments it made to gain approval for its acquisition of the alternative broadband provider last year. As a result of adding to its spectrum holdings, Aire Networks, which currently offers services as an MVNO under the Ion Mobile banner, while also offering wholesale access to its 4G LTE infrastructure in Extremadura (and soon in Valencia) under its own name, has said it will now look to expand its network. To that end, from March 2016 Aire will ‘intensify’ its activities with a view to extending coverage to around 500 towns in the first stage of deployment.
