Volia acquires national wireless spectrum holder to support Wi-Fi strategy

6 Jan 2016

Ukraine’s leading cableco Volia has agreed to buy Normatek, a company holding a nationwide 5.5GHz frequency licence alongside 10.5GHz spectrum in the capital Kiev, to support a strategy to expand Wi-Fi broadband access services, BizLiga reported. Following approval from the Ukrainian antimonopoly authorities in December, Volia indicated that it would finalise the deal in early 2016. Previously, Normatek operated on a national basis, but the number of operational regions were reduced to just one, as the business became unprofitable after a doubling of fees for frequencies.
