DRC government calls for deactivation of unregistered SIMs

The DRC government has asked for all unidentified SIMs to be deactivated, reports Agence Ecofin. The announcement was made by Thomas Luhaka Losendjola of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and ICT (Ministere des Postes, Telephones et Telecoms, MPTT) on 26 December at a meeting with telecoms operators and the Regulation Authority of Posts and Telecoms (Autorite de Regulation des Postes et Telecom, ARPTC), while a statement from the ministry reads: ‘The government of the Republic asks all users to identify themselves with their respective networks for their own safety, and for maintenance of public order.’
