Spark (formerly Telecom New Zealand) has agreed to pay NZD9 million (USD6.1 million) to acquire a 70MHz block of spectrum in the 2.3GHz band from Craig Wireless and its subsidiary Woosh Wireless. David Havercroft, chief operating officer at Spark’s Connect unit, commented: ‘We were interested in this spectrum as it is complementary to our other spectrum holdings.’ The frequencies are suitable for the provision of wireless broadband services. Completion of the acquisition is subject to necessary regulatory approvals, including consent from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
