Telus picks Affirmed Networks’ NFV solution to support IoT

Canadian quad-play telco Telus Communications has selected virtualised mobile networks specialist Affirmed Networks to support the delivery of Internet of Things (IoT) service offerings. A press release says that Affirmed Networks’ Mobile Content Cloud solution will enable Telus to economically scale its network to meet IoT workload and usage demands, with the ability to ‘seamlessly’ scale capacity up or down to address the changing traffic patterns that are inherent in IoT services. Telus’ CTO Ibrahim Gedeo said: ‘IoT represents a tremendous opportunity for Canadian businesses and Telus is committed to providing our customers with innovative solutions that enhance their productivity and profitability.’ Hassan Ahmed, CEO of Affirmed Networks, added that Telus’ IoT offerings ‘represent a powerful set of services that provide business customers with a wide range of productivity and efficiency gains … Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) solutions like Affirmed’s Mobile Content Cloud provide the necessary shift in network economics and service agility.’ Affirmed Networks currently has at least 28 customers worldwide, and over 40 trials with operators a move to a virtualised mobile network infrastructure.
