Bouygues Telecom launches pilot VoLTE service

26 Nov 2015

French operator Bouygues Telecom has launched what it termed as ‘France’s first’ voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) pilot service. The VoLTE offering is currently available to 5,000 customers (including 700 corporate subscribers) using Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung S6 Edge handsets. Bouygues said that the technology will allow its subscribers to benefit from HD voice call quality, shorter call set-up times and video calling, while also allowing users to send, share and download content during a voice call. The VoLTE service will be made available to all customers with compatible phones in 2016.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in May 2014 Bouygues selected Ericsson to optimise its network with VoLTE capabilities and full IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network integration in a multi-vendor environment.
