Gabon Telecom unveils 4G+ network; claims 233Mbps downlink

24 Nov 2015

One year on from its introduction of LTE technology, Gabon Telecom has activated its new ‘4G+’ network. Speaking at the launch event, director general Abderrahim Koumaa revealed that the improved infrastructure supports downlink transmission speeds of up to 233Mbps, suggesting the use of LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology. The executive has promised end-users ‘a richer download experience’. Mr Koumaa also noted that the company’s 3G and 4G networks now offer coverage of 21 major towns and cities across all nine provinces. The 4G+ launch follows hot on the heels of Gabon Telecom’s introduction of high-definition voice capabilities in late October; the telco claimed that the switch-on represented ‘a first for the sub-region’.
