Ukraine’s largest cellco by subscribers Kyivstar claimed in a press release yesterday that the number of users who had accessed its 3G UMTS network by the end of October exceeded 3.9 million, whilst ‘regular’ 3G internet users on the network – launched in June – reached ‘more than 1.1 million’. Kyivstar also disclosed that the W-CDMA/DC-HSPA+ network has reached commercial coverage of 370 settlements (towns, cities and other locations), including 16 regional centres, representing a population of over eleven million, with a further 20-plus cities and towns testing their 3G infrastructure ahead of additional imminent launches. At the end of October total daily 3G traffic on Kyivstar’s network exceeded 34TB, up by 15% from the end of September, with the largest concentrations of 3G users in Kiev (356,000 daily users), Dnipropetrovsk (120,000) and Odessa (112,000).
