Five 3.4GHz-3.8GHz winners paying EUR10.1m for licences

Orange Romania, Vodafone Romania, RCS&RDS (Digi), Radiocom (National Radiocommunications Company, SNR) and 2K Telecom will pay total licence fees of EUR10.124 million (USD11.17 million) by 2 December 2015 for ten-year nationwide 3.4GHz-3.8GHz wireless broadband spectrum licences which become valid in January 2016. Romanian telecoms regulator ANCOM announced that in total 255MHz bandwidth was awarded in the 3410MHz-3600MHz and 3600MHz-3800MHz bands, 65% more than previously allocated under existing licences.

Orange Romania obtained five blocks of 2×5MHz in the 3410MHz-3600MHz band plus nine 5MHz unpaired blocks in the 3600MHz-3800MHz range, worth a total of EUR3.924 million. RCS&RDS – purchasing spectrum in this band for the first time – received ten 5MHz unpaired blocks in the 3600MHz-3800MHz band costing EUR1.880 million. Radiocom also bought ten 5MHz unpaired blocks in the 3600MHz-3800MHz band, for licence fees of EUR1.850 million, while Vodafone Romania won four blocks of 2×5MHz in the 3410MHz-3600MHz band, agreeing to pay EUR1.730 million. Rounding out those securing spectrum, 2K Telecom won two blocks of 2×5MHz in the 3410MHz-3600MHz range costing EUR740,000.
