Airtel Ghana surpasses 4m subscribers

Airtel Ghana has surpassed four million mobile subscribers, reaching a total of 4,111,766 at the end of June 2015, according to the most recent ‘Voice Subscription Trends’ data from the country’s National Communications Authority (NCA). This is an increase from a reported 3,863,252 at 31 March 2015, and 3,735,656 at the end of 2014.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Airtel launched its first Ghanaian network in December 2008, then operating under the Zain Communications Ghana banner, and today offers 2G GSM and 3G W-CDMA services,. The operator accounts for more than 12% of the mobile subscriber market share, taking fourth place behind MTN Ghana (14,886,291 subscribers at end-June 2015), Vodafone Ghana (7,296,394 at the same date) and Millicom Ghana (4,490,078).
