ICE to invest USD19.9m on 4G expansion

23 Sep 2015

State-owned utility provider Grupo Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (Grupo ICE), which offers telecom services under the ‘Kolbi’ brand, is to expand its 4G network coverage in 70 new areas, La Nacion writes. The operator plans to spend USD19.9 million on the project, which will improve coverage in malls, hospitals, universities and other locations. Senior ICE official Jaime Palermo commented on the choice of locations: ‘We want to give better coverage as needed, so we did a study to see where our customers demand[ed] more access.’ The rollout is expected to be completed in 2016.
