Orange Romania launches VoLTE; Wi-Fi calling to follow

14 Sep 2015

Orange Romania – the country’s cellular market leader by customer base – today launched voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technology on its commercial network, claiming to offer 4G users five-times faster call connection times than previously, whilst providing better call clarity and simultaneous LTE data/internet connection. The VoLTE launch, in partnership with smart device manufacturer Samsung, was accompanied by the announcement that Orange Romania also plans to launch Wi-Fi calling on 2 November 2015, to expand its voice services in areas with scarce mobile network coverage. The cellco – which already covers 96% of Romanian urban dwellers and 70% of the general population with its 4G LTE services – has budgeted investment of EUR500 million (USD567 million) in the next three years, CEO Jean-Francois Fallacher told a press conference last week.
