Pakistan’s Minister of State for IT and Telecom, Anusha Rehman, has revealed that the government is looking to hold another round of spectrum auctions in the near future. ProPakistani writes that the minister made the announcement during a meeting with the Turkish ambassador, in which she also noted that a tranche of 850MHz spectrum would be reserved for a new operator. The official explained that ‘market forces have already expressed their appetite for more spectrum,’ following greater than expected demand for 3G/4G services. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the number of 3G subscribers reached 13.287 million in June 2015, a little over a year since the introduction of the service in late May 2014. Whilst no schedule for the auction has been set out, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has begun looking for a consultant to advise on the sale.
