Bharti considers Bangladesh, Sri Lanka sales

Indian telecoms giant Bharti Airtel is mulling the sale of its Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan mobile operations, having appointed two bankers to lead the sale, according to Mobile World Live citing a report by the Business Standard. Bharti reportedly aims to firstly sell its cellular tower businesses in the two countries followed by the mobile operating divisions. Airtel currently operates around 4,000 towers in Bangladesh and 2,500 towers in Sri Lanka. Airtel’s quarterly revenue in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh fell 11% in April-June 2015 to INR3.8 billion (USD57.3 million), while its mobile subscriber market share stands at roughly 7% in both South Asian countries.
