Dutch cellcos expand LTE-A footprints

26 Aug 2015

Vodafone Netherlands says it now has Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) technology deployed in 130 municipalities. Using carrier aggregation in the 800MHz and 1800MHz bands, the ‘4G+’ technology provides peak theoretical download speeds of up to 225Mbps. Separately, Telecompaper reports that mobile market leader KPN now has LTE-A technology installed on a quarter of its mobile masts, covering areas such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Groningen, Eindhoven, Tilburg, ’s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) and Nijmegen. KPN claimed three million 4G users at the end of June 2015, while Vodafone had around one million.
