15 Jul 2015

Sri Lankan mobile operator Dialog Axiata has initiated a customer trial of its 100Mbps LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in Colombo, local site Daily News reports. Following a successful showcase of the faster speeds at ICT event INET Colombo 2015, select home broadband users in Colombo have now been invited to test the platform. The pilot network is said to be fully functional in the Colombo 5 and Colombo 6 zones of the city, although Dialog has yet to announce a full commercial launch date for the network.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Dialog rolled out 4G LTE fixed and mobile networks in December 2012 and March 2013, respectively, offering downlink transmission speeds of up to 40Mbps in Colombo, Jaffna, Kandy, Negombo, Wattala, Gamaha, Kurunegala and Galle.
