Albanian operator Albtelecom, which offers wireless services under the Eagle Mobile banner, has selected vendors Huawei and Cisco to implement its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network; Huawei will deploy antenna systems on a nationwide basis, while Cisco will deliver an all-IP core. Having already invested more then EUR150 million (USD165.4 million) in the new network, Albtelecom expects to invest a further EUR21 million on 4G infrastructure, including an EUR8.5 million licence fee, payable to the Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications (AKEP). The 1800MHz 4G network is expected to launch on 1 September 2015, and will offer peak download speeds of up to 150Mbps.
