Vodafone Italy has announced that it will launch the country’s first commercial voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) services on 16 July under the banner ‘Call +’. The cellco says that as well as improving the clarity and stability of the voice connection, the technology also offers features such as sharing pictures mid-call and one-touch video calling. Vodafone says VoLTE will be available to its 4G customers with compatible smartphones at no additional cost. The firm currently provides 4G services to 88% of Italy’s population, while infrastructure in 450 cities and towns has been upgraded to 225Mbps LTE-Advanced (LTE-A). Vodafone Italy claimed 2.8 million LTE users at the end of March 2015, from a total of 25.2 million subscribers.
