Vietnamese-backed cellco Bitel is looking into bidding for 700MHz spectrum in the upcoming auction, Bolsmania writes, citing the operator’s deputy commercial director Erick Navarrete. Bitel, which currently provides 2G and 3G services using frequencies in the 1900MHz and 900MHz bands, is ‘technically ready’ for 4G the official said. Mr Navarrete went on to say that Bitel would look to roll out the service in ‘small deployments,’ enabling it to launch 4G offerings within a few months of winning. The operator faces something of an uphill struggle in securing the frequencies, which are seen as ‘essential’ for effective 4G networks, and will have to go toe-to-toe with market leader Movistar as well as fellow challenger Entel to compete for the airwaves.
