Ice expands product range using Network Norway’s infrastructure

17 Jun 2015

Having previously operated purely as a mobile broadband operator using its spectrum in the 450MHz band, Norway’s Ice.net has announced the launch of an expanded service range including mobile voice having absorbed and rebranded the infrastructure and services belonging to Network Norway.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in February 2015 the Norwegian Competition Authority (NCA) confirmed it had approved the proposed acquisition of Tele2 Norge by Sweden’s TeliaSonera, conditional upon the full implementation of a commitments package submitted by the latter which included the conclusion of a roaming agreement with Ice.net, and the sale of Tele2 Norge’s mobile infrastructure and the mobile operator Network Norway to Ice. With Ice having now confirmed that it actually took over Network Norway in March, including its roughly 90,000 customers in the SMB sector, the enlarged operator has unveiled its new product range, which includes residential mobile voice plans. The new services on offer will reportedly be provided by Ice using both its long-standing 450MHz infrastructure and the 2G and 3G networks which previously belonged to Network Norway and use 900MHz and 2100MHz spectrum, respectively.

To celebrate the development, the cellco has unveiled a raft of promotional offers for both residential and business customers, with the former able to sign up for a tariff offering unlimited voice calls and SMS in addition to a monthly 2GB data usage allowance for NOK149 (USD19.2) per month for the first year, rising to NOK229 after that. Those customers seeking a larger data cap can double the limit to 4GB per month, with this plan costing NOK199 during the promotional period and NOK299 thereafter.
