Zong to offer free 4G SIM upgrade

26 May 2015

China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak), which provides mobile services under the Zong brand, is planning to upgrade the SIMs of all users within 4G-covered cities to 4G-compatible SIMs for free, ProPakistani writes, citing an unnamed company official. Under the scheme, all users in 4G-covered areas would be eligible to have their existing SIM replaced with a 4G-compatible Universal SIM (USIM). The cellco hopes that by increasing the accessibility of the USIMs, more customers will begin to use 4G services. Zong also claims that the USIMs are more secure than standard SIM cards and, as such, will improve national security. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of March 2015 Zong claimed 27.43 million mobile subscribers, including 2.92 million 3G and 31,582 4G users.
