Chilean-backed cellco Entel Peru has pledged to invest USD260 million to achieve full nationwide mobile coverage by the end of the year, Signals Telecom reports. The operator is planning to expand into the six regions it has yet to cover, namely: Loreto, San Martin, Pucallpa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca and Huanuco. At the end of 2013, Entel – then operating under the ‘Nextel del Peru’ moniker – had just 800 2G and 3G sites, but by December 2014 the number had reached 1,590 and the cellco aims to have 2,400 active sites by end-2015.
