Telenor Bulgaria completes 2G/3G upgrade project

7 May 2015

Telenor Bulgaria (formerly GloBul), the country’s second largest cellco in terms of subscribers, has completed its 2G/3G network modernisation programme, which allows its customers to experience significantly improved coverage and increased network capacity. Going forward, the company disclosed that network expansion will continue in order to further improve customer experience.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in March 2014 GloBul awarded a contract to Chinese equipment vendor Huawei Technologies for its network upgrade project. Under the terms set out by the deal, Huawei agreed to upgrade the operator’s 2G and 3G networks, replace and improve GloBul’s access, core and backbone transport networks and provide related services. Further, the agreement covered a five-year investment cycle and an eight-year maintenance period.
