Tigo Guatemala launches LTE in the capital and seven municipalities

6 May 2015

Tigo Guatemala, the country’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has launched 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in the capital Guatemala City and the municipalities of Santa Catarina Pinula, Villa Nueva, San Miguel Petapa, Villa Canales, Amatitlan Fraijanes and San Jose Pinula. 4G services are available at no extra cost to subscribers on any of Tigo’s mobile data plans, provided they have a compatible SIM and handset.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate in October 2014, the 4G deployment forms part of Tigo’s three-year infrastructure modernisation project. Gonzalez expects around 200,000 users to migrate to the 4G service in its first year of operation, rising to one million by 2020.
