Vimpelcom (Beeline) launches commercial VoLTE service in Moscow

23 Apr 2015

Russian operator Vimpelcom, which offers services under the brand name Beeline, has launched Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) commercially in its Moscow network. The operator says that the launch should ensure the provision of high quality voice services on 4G networks in the Moscow market. Currently, voice services on LTE in Russia are made using Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) technology, which effects a temporary ‘switch’ to the best available 2G/3G signal for establishing a voice connection. After the call is complete, the devices return to LTE, which under CSFB results in a delay in the connection and inefficient use of network resources.
