PTCL faces tax evasion charges over equipment imports

10 Apr 2015

Pakistan’s customers authorities have accused fixed line incumbent Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), equipment vendor Huawei and shipping firm Easter Freight of tax evasion in relation to the import of telecommunication equipment. According to Customs Today, the watchdog found that PTCL had mis-declared goods, paying just 1% customs duty on the equipment rather than the full 20%, evading customs duty, sales tax and income tax worth ‘millions of rupees’. The paper notes that this is the sixth time tax evasion charges have been brought against PTCL in the last 18 months.
