Peru’s minister of transport and communication, Jose Gallardo Ku, has announced that his department is planning to spend PEN18 million (USD5.74 million) on telecoms projects in Ucayali, as part of a wider infrastructure development programme in the region that will see the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) invest a total of PEN871 million. The telecom projects include the installation of a fibre-optic backbone network linking two provincial capitals, the launch of internet services in six district capitals and two isolated provincial capitals, and the extension of mobile networks.
