Surfline, Huawei to expand 4G LTE coverage in Ghana

5 Mar 2015

Ghanaian telco Surfline Communications has chosen Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies to expand its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. A press release from the operator notes that the expansion will cover major cities such as Takoradi, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Tamale and Ho, alongside a number of other key municipalities in Ghana. Surfline’s coverage is presently limited to Accra and Tema. Upon completion of the project Surfline’s network will consist of more than 700 4G cell sites.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Surfline launched Ghana’s first commercial 4G network in August 2014, following a rollout by French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent.
