O2’s company, 3’s a crowd: Hutchison transfers 1.5 million O2 subscribers to 3 brand

3 Mar 2015

More than 1.5 million O2 Ireland subscribers have now been migrated to the Hutchison 3G Ireland (3 Ireland) brand following Hutchison’s EUR780 million (USD872.9 million) acquisition of O2 Ireland from Telefonica of Spain in July last year. The purchase saw 3 Ireland’s subscriber base grow to over two million, making it the country’s second-largest mobile network operator by subscribers, behind market leader Vodafone. 3 Ireland customers are able to call each other for free – subject to certain conditions – with the operator claiming that from June onwards former O2 customers will receive ‘improved data coverage and superfast 4G’.
