Curacao-based telecoms operator United Telecommunication Services (UTS) has confirmed that the ‘beta trial’ of its planned 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network is now underway, with the carrier offering connectivity in the capital Willemstad and the Hato Airport area. The trial, which commenced on 6 February, is set to conclude on 20 February. While it is unclear which frequencies UTS is using, 2014 saw regulator Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post (BTNP) disclose its intention to utilise the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) 700MHz band for 4G in Curacao. No concrete plans to distribute the frequencies have yet been made public.
