Tele2’s group mobile service revenue jumps 7%; expects Norway divestment completion in Q1

30 Jan 2015

Swedish telecoms group Tele 2 has reported that consolidated revenue grew by 4% year-on-year to SEK6.876 billion (USD831 million) in Q4 2014, although EBITDA shrank by 5% to SEK1.412 billion in the quarter. Group-wide mobile end-user service revenue grew by 7% to SEK3.205 billion in October-December 2014, driven by improved monetisation of mobile data services.

Mobile end-user service revenue at Tele2 Sweden grew by 5% in Q4 2014, while Swedish EBITDA increased to SEK792 million in the quarter from SEK722 million in 4Q13, positively impacted by accelerated data usage, predominantly in the post-paid segment.

Tele2 Netherlands added 22,000 net new mobile customers in 4Q14 (compared to 62,000 in 4Q13) to take its total base to 813,000. Mobile end-user service revenue in the Netherlands amounted to SEK301 million, up by 15% year-on-year.

Tele2 Kazakhstan improved its customer intake in Q4 2014 to 205,000 (compared to net customer decrease of 393,000 in 4Q13), which the group attributed partly to a new commission structure and partly due to new price plans introduced as a reaction to increased competition. Mobile end-user service revenue in Kazakhstan grew by 12% y-o-y in Q4 2014, amounting to SEK280 million despite being impacted by devaluation of the local currency and increased competitive pressure.

On 1 December 2014 the competition authority in Norway issued a preliminary decision rejecting the sale of Tele2 Norway to TeliaSonera. To be able to complete the transaction, Tele2 says the parties have presented a new proposal to the authority, adding that it is aiming to complete the sale after approval by regulatory authorities, now expected in Q1 2015.
