Airtel Nigeria, the local unit of Indian telecoms operator Bharti Airtel, has extended its strategic partnership with Huawei Technologies by selecting the Chinese vendor as a Managed Services Provider (MSP) for the capital city Abuja and the surrounding Federal Capital Territory (FCT). According to a Huawei press release, the extension will improve network quality and enhance Airtel’s customer experience in the region. Under the deal, Huawei will provide Airtel Nigeria with standardised delivery platforms and processes over its Managed Services Unified Platform (MSUP), in addition to employee management services and operations support system (OSS) tools. Airtel first contracted Huawei to manage its 2G and 3G wireless networks, microwave transmission networks and core networks in 2011; the MSP deal between the two partners currently cover 60% of the country.
