Ukraine’s third-largest cellco by subscribers Astelit (life:)) has completed a project to expand and modernise its Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) backbone transport network in partnership with China’s Huawei Technologies, increasing data transfer rates and improving network availability, according to a press release. The expansion and upgrade work was carried out on Astelit’s transmission network across central, eastern and western parts of Ukraine, involving the replacement of 23 older network elements whilst adding 18 new elements to the network, and deploying two channels capable of transmitting at 100Gbps per wavelength. The Huawei-sourced NG-WDM (Next Generation-Wavelength Division Multiplexing) equipment supports up to 80 channels with a bandwidth of up to 100Gbps per wavelength.
