UPC unveils 240Mbps download speeds; claims Ireland’s fastest connections

7 Jan 2015

UPC Ireland has introduced a new broadband package, supporting downlink speeds of up to 240Mbps. The cableco claims that the new service is the fastest broadband package currently available in the country. Monthly subscriptions are priced at an introductory EUR25 (USD30) per month, rising to EUR45 per month after four months.

TeleGeography notes that rival telcos Sky Ireland and Eircom have each recently announced planned increases to their respective speeds, with Sky aiming to offer 100Mbps access to 1.6 million homes via ‘Eircom’s eFibre’ fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) network by the end of 2015. Meanwhile, Eircom itself commenced the rollout of 1Gbps end-user connectivity to 66 Irish communities via fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology in November 2014.
