Telefonica, Ericsson team up to deploy LTE in Peruvian Amazon

23 Dec 2014

Telefonica Peru and Swedish vendor Ericsson have unveiled joint plans to provide fixed-wireless internet access in the Peruvian Amazon via 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. The project, which will commence in 2015, will initially seek to offer connectivity to governmental entities, such as schools and healthcare centres. Ericsson claims that the initiative is the first of its kind in Latin America to use 4G technology for fixed-wireless internet access in a remote rural location. Spanning over 500,000 square kilometres, the Peruvian Amazon boasts some of the greatest biodiversity in the world.
