CityCell tries to buy more time to pay off BTRC dues

22 Dec 2014

Bangladesh’s only CDMA mobile operator CityCell has sought an additional six months to settle its dues with the telecom regulator BTRC in an attempt to stop its operating licence being cancelled, according to company officials cited by the Financial Express, who noted however that the regulator is yet to give a reply to the appeal, and is expected to make a decision at its next meeting. At the latest BTRC meeting it was decided to start the process of licence cancellation unless CityCell – 45%-owned by Singapore’s SingTel – paid its outstanding dues by 18 December.
