UMS launches free HD voice for Tashkent users

18 Dec 2014

Newcomer to Uzbekistan’s mobile market and the successor to ousted provider MTS Uzbekistan (also known as Uzdunrobita), Universal Mobile Systems (UMS) has launched a high definition (HD) voice service, which it claims is the first of its kind in the republic. The new service provides users with ‘crystal clear’ voice communications and is available free of charge to all UMS subscribers with compatible devices in the capital. As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database UMS is a 49.99/50.01 joint venture between the Uzbek state and Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) and launched services on 1 December 2014. The cellco inherited the network of MTS’s previous foray into Uzbekistan’s mobile market, MTS Uzbekistan, which was forced out of the market under questionable circumstances in July 2012.
