The sun always shines on O2 TV; cellco’s latest take on 4G

17 Dec 2014

In a press release, O2 Czech Republic says that the number of people signed up to its O2 TV service exceeded 182,000 at the start of this month, noting that over the past two months the subscriber base increased by more than 4,000 and is still rising. In addition, the fixed and mobile operator said that its recently introduced O2TV Go service, which allows users to watch TV on their mobile phones and devices, has already recorded 178,000 downloads since it went live. O2 CR’s digital television offer can be ordered from CZK299 (USD13.5) per month, as part of a pre-Xmas offer, and packs include two bundles of thematic programmes and rights to download and watch O2TV Go on up to four different devices. The service also includes access to video-on-demand (VoD), a recording function and rewind TV.

In a related development, O2 CR says that its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network has been extended to cover the D1 motorway from Prague to Brno, allowing subscribers to watch TV without interruption. The operator has installed no fewer than 37 base transceiver stations (BTS), operating in the 800MHz band, along and near to the route of the motorway.
