T-Mobile US confirms 700MHz LTE network live in Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis and Washington DC

17 Dec 2014

T-Mobile US has confirmed that it has switched on 700MHz Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis and Washington DC. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, January 2014 saw T-Mobile buy a substantial package of A block spectrum from larger rival Verizon Wireless for USD2.37 billion, and in late-2014 the cellco claimed that it owned or had agreements to own 700MHz A block frequencies covering 176 million people, or 55% of the population. These frequencies were said to encompass nine of the top ten metropolitan markets and 22 of the top 30 metro areas. As of last month, T-Mobile noted that 50% of its potential 700MHz markets were ‘free and clear’ for LTE deployment, with the remainder encumbered by Channel 51 broadcasters.
